| Location: | Based at El Dorado woolshed – end of El Dorado (Mt Watkin) Road. From Waikouaiti travel west on Ramrock Rd for 3km to Mt Watkin Rd, then north/north-west 14km to the end of El Dorado (Mt Watkin) Rd. |
| Accommodation: | There is a camping area available near the woolshed but no facilities other than toilets and water. Motel and campsite/cabin accommodation is available in Waikouaiti. |
| Terrain: | Farmland, forest, tussock country, and scrub patches. The contour varies from rolling uplands with schist and volcanic (basalt) outcrops and several distinct volcanic cones, to steep gullies and deeply incised valleys. |
| Map: | A3, 1:40 000 with 20m contours derived from the standard NZ topographic map. It will be pre-marked with checkpoints and out of bounds areas. |
Scoring:
| Navlight will NOT be used. Checkpoints will be clearly marked and there will be clearly visible coded tags at the sites. Samples will be shown at registration. Record the code to verify your visit to the checkpoint. All members of a team MUST visit to within 20 metres of the checkpoint (together) and must be in close, verbal contact throughout the course. Teams that split up will be disqualified. |
| Instruction: | Available to those needing it on the day.
|
| Cancellation: | Only if conditions are extreme on the day. Organisers reserve the right to shorten the event before the start. (No entry fee refund if the event is cancelled as all the expenditure will have been committed). An alternative, lower altitude area is available and will be used if the weather so determines. The two longer options will be reduced to 9 hours and 4 hours respectively. This may be a last-minute change, but road access is such that there is no risk of arriving at the wrong start area/base. |
| Responsibility: | Neither NZRA, the organisers nor the landowners accept liability for any accident or injury to participants during the event. The ‘team contact’ on the entry form must ensure all team members are aware that they participate at their own risk. |
| Land Access: | We acknowledge the generosity of the landowners who are hosting us on private land and we ask participants to return their goodwill. |
